We had known the work drawn in 2010, here is now the sculpture. Fabien Mérelle decided to materialize his Pentateuch and a three-dimensional version presented to Art Stage Singapore 2013. This piece seems to be of great importance for the french artist. Nothing surprising since drawing as sculpture are highly symbolic and open to many levels of reading. Simply include that, culturally, the elephant evokes memory and wisdom while the "Pentateuch" title refers to religious texts, including the five first books of the Bible. Writings whose weight has conditioned many chapters of history and whose interpretation has greatly varied depending on the time and place.

french artist fabien mérelle presents ‘pentateuque’ as part of the 2013 art stage singapore exhibition at the marina bay sands. the animated sculpture depicts a man withstanding the weight of an elephant – a translation of an illustration by the same artist into three dimensional volume lightheartedly referencing the maxim ‘to have the weight on one’s shoulders’. mérelle uses the tools of humor, storytelling and whimsy to direct the spirit of his pieces, with ‘pentateuque’ a charming nod to his childhood.

The Edouard Malingue Gallery has gained recognition for installing large-scale public sculptures around Hong Kong. Running with the exhibition of Zhang Huan at the gallery, the monumental sculpture Three Heads, Six Arms was placed on public display at 1881 Heritage in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. In 2012, the gallery organised the first public installation of Laurent Grasso's work Anechoic Pavilion on the rooftop of Pier 4, in Central Hong Kong. In May 2013, Fabien Mérelle’s life-size sculpture “Pentateuque” was installed in Statue Square in Central Hong Kong to popular acclaim.
